Next interview format that I will be sharing with you is a case interview. This nature of interview is basically conducted in consultancy firms, or in job roles where you have to solve complex problems. In other words, it's like doing mental gymnastics while someone is standing right in front of you and judging you for everything that you're doing. So it can be extremely daunting, but there are certain tips that if you follow, you will be able to impress the interviewer, and clear your case interview in the best way possible. In this lecture, I will be sharing with you five tips that most consultants and interviewers recommend in case of a case interview. As I mentioned earlier that a case interview is one of the most difficult interview formats in the market today, and it can send data up and down your spine.
So the first thing that you have to do is to slow down, breathe and try to relax. This will help you buy some time and also give proper structured answers. When you are presented with a case study. Take some time to think about what it is go through it and try to relax And breathe properly. If you breathe and slow down appropriately, it will help you buy some time to think about the case or the problem that is in front of you and you will be able to give a proper answer. Normally what happens is that people start panicking when they find out that they have to resolve a case while the interviewer is sitting right in front of you, which is why I recommend that you should slow down Think about it.
And while you are going through the case, you should say things like this is interesting, please give me some time to think about it. So I can give you a proper answer. So this way, the interviewer will know that you are serious about the problem that is presented to you and assume that you will give a concrete answer instead of just jumping to conclusions. Second thing that I would recommend that you do is to talk it through while you're going through the case and take credit wherever it is possible. When you are going through the case. Try to do so in detail and acknowledge the inputs that you require and all the calculations that you will have to make.
This way the interviewer will know that you are trying to understand The actual case and are very serious in resolving the problem. At times candidates try to jump to conclusions, which I mentioned earlier as well, this is something that goes against you. And it is very difficult to come back from an case interview, where you have initially jumped from conclusions. And you realize later that what you had just said, was not relevant to this case. The third thing that you have to account for in these kinds of interviews is that you should engage directly with the interviewer. So when you are going through the case, don't just do it in silence, read it thoroughly.
And whenever you feel that there is any input that is required. For example, if for a certain case you need the number of employees, or if approximate review numbers, or the number of sales, the kind of products that you have, strive to engage yourself with the interviewer as well. This way it will become a joint effort, and that person will appreciate your teamwork skills, which also carries a respectable weightage in the overall interview assessment. The fourth tip that I would like to share here is that you should have Always use your common sense before giving an answer. So if you've done your calculations, and even if you are 100% confident that you have the right answer, take a moment to just go through all the analysis that you've done, so that if there is any mistake, you can point it out there and then before presenting it to the interviewer, remember, if you give an unrealistic answer, that means that you have basically finished the interview and you've hit the hammer on your own foot.
Hence, you must spend some time once you finish the query or the case and make sure that you have not made any mistakes that are affecting your overall answer. And then finally, the last tip is that if in case you do make a mistake, don't worry, it is fine because everyone makes mistakes. And at times, you might be presented with a case in which there is a mistake in the first place. Even let's say if you make a mistake, make sure that you don't lose your composure and don't let it affect your overall interview. Because remember that I mentioned earlier that your interview is an overall experience and as humans beings we are bound to make mistakes. But once they start getting to you and you start losing your confidence and you start giving vivid answers, that is the time when my friend, things have gone bad for you.
In the end, I would like to tell you that nobody wants to do maths under observation. And resolving complex problems or a case study, while you're being observed is a very daunting task. But having said that, you should take this interview as a challenge to showcase your problem solving skills, your creativity, skills, and your overall confidence in solving problems. Keep in mind that making a mistake is not the end of the world. What the interviewer is trying to judge Is that how you perform under pressure, how quickly you solve problems. And then finally, how convincing are your answers.
So keeping these things in mind, concentrate, use your common sense, and try to follow the tips that I shared in this lecture. And I'm hundred percent sure that you will do great in a case interview
