In a traditional interview, you will come across a solo interviewer, and he or she will basically ask you a series of questions in order to determine if you're the best fit for the job. There are a lot of success factors that come into this kind of interview like for example, your dressing, your first impressions, how you talk, how you maintain eye contact, and so on. But these are the basics. And in order to succeed, you have to go beyond the basics. Hence, in this lecture, I will share with you four tips that if you employ successfully, you will stand out from the rest of the candidates. You see in this kind of interview.
Since you are face to face with the interviewer with zero distractions, your primary objective should be that the interviewer should picture you in the job role, your responses and your structured answers should be so good and so effective, that he or she should start picturing you in that job. So in order to do this, there are four things that you should do. And if you do those successfully, I believe you will become the favorite candidate for that particular job. The first thing that you have to portray in such an interview is to show to the interviewer that you were indispensable in your previous jobs. And you have a list of achievements that can also be applied to your current job against which you are interviewing. Now, you can't just say that I've been very good at this.
And that, for example, if this job basically requires you to be good with timelines, and so on, you can mention a specific example of what you've done in the past, and try to relate it with this job as well. For example, in your previous job, or in your thesis, or your project, in case you're a fresh graduate, you were given an assignment, which had very strict timelines. So tell that person or the interviewer about that particular project, what exactly was your role? What are the measures and the actions that you took? And what was the final outcome? This is also known as the star approach of answering the question.
We have a dedicated lecture about this later on. But in a nutshell, you have to rely on your previous achievements so that you can obtain your first job. Remember, nothing says hire me better. Then a list of achievements that you've had over the past couple of years. Second thing that you have to convey during this kind of an interview is that you will be awesome in this job. And you can't do this.
But just by saying that you will be, you have to translate everything that you've done all your achievements, like I mentioned earlier, into how they will be beneficial for this particular job role, and the organization as well. And by doing so, you have to give specific examples. The third thing that you have to convey in this kind of an interview is that you have to show them that you are the perfect fit for this job. I say this because a lot of times as hiring managers or HR professionals, they come across very smart candidates, but for some reason, they are not selected. And the reason is when we asked the hiring managers why they just say okay, yes, he or she was very smart, but I don't think they will be a good fit for the job position. So you see, what I'm trying to say is that likeability is one of the major factors that you have to account for.
At the end of the day. It is that person who is interviewing you, who will decide You're fed. Remember that. So you have to please him or her in a way that they start appreciating your qualities and your strengths and start considering you and picturing you for that job. Now, you can do this by being confident by maintaining a good eye contact by giving spontaneous and structured answers, listening actively. But just to summarize all these things, you should be formally relaxed, even though I know that you will be nervous, but still, it is something that is very important.
And all interviewers look at these things, and it has a lot of ways in your overload interview. Remember, your interview is not just a conversation, it has to be an experience that the interviewer remembers it for a long time. And after a couple of days, after meeting three or four other candidates, they still remember the experience that they had with you. Then finally, the last thing that should be conveyed during an interview is that you have to show them that you really want this job. Now at times I've come across candidates who were very good, but they lacked the overall enthusiasm and their body language. Did not portray the fact that they really wanted that job.
And the way they were answering it was showing that they know too much, but will not be able to translate it effectively as per the job requirements. Now over here, what you have to do is that you have to show them that you are enthusiastic, not cheerleader style by bouncing all over the place. But by maintaining a very business tone, and letting them know that if you join, you will look forward to doing this, this and this and would appreciate if you can grow within the company and are looking forward to the challenges this job has to offer. If you do this effectively, the interviewer will get impressed and look forward to you joining his or her team. In a traditional interview when you're face to face with one interviewer, these four things will matter a lot. However, at the same time, they will be a lot of other factors as well, which I will discuss with you later in the course as for example how to give structured answers.
I've mentioned what start approach is but I will explain it in detail once I have shaved all that interview types as well. So with that, let's move on to the next one which is telephonic interview.
