Now I hope by now you are convinced that first impressions count a lot when giving the perfect interview. Because if you're not, then I would suggest that you stop right now and take this course all over again. Keep in mind that your first impression start as soon as you enter the office, and all the people that you come across from the receptionist all the way till the CEO will be judging you one way or another, and they might be forming an opinion about you as well. So make sure that you are in your best behavior and portraying a very positive image about yourself. In this lecture, I will be sharing with you tips that if you follow accurately, you will be able to give a very positive first impression about yourself and also start the conversation with the interviewer. Your first impressions will start with your handshake.
And like I've said before, that you have to shake it like you mean it. So once you come across the interviewer, shake his hand, squeeze it gently and shake it three times and then please let go while you're shaking the hand of the interviewer. Maintain eye contact and have a gentle smile on your face. This will show that You have a very pleasant personality and are there with a purpose. Then once you enter the room, go there and just ask for water. in normal circumstances, the interviewer will ask him or herself that if you want water, tea or coffee, just ask for a cup of water because water plays a very important role in giving the perfect interview.
Well, taking a sip of water, it gives you a couple of seconds, very valuable seconds for you to construct your answer in your brain. And then share it with the interviewers so that you are able to impress them while you are waiting for your water to arrive. for god sakes I've mentioned again and again that please do not fidget with yourself. So please don't play with your fingers like this and start cracking them or anything. don't scratch your nose or your ear because this will portray a very negative body language. And what you want is that you want to portray a body language which shows the interviewers that you are extremely excited, engaged and fully charged up to take on the interview.
Then once you start talking with the interviewers and start engaging yourself in a conversation, please make sure that you talk to you And with purpose, if you talk too fast, they will not be able to understand you. And also do not forget to breathe in between. If you're not able to do so, it will lead to a very awkward moment of silence in between where you have to catch your breath and that goes against you as far as overall conversation is concerned. Yes, you are nervous, but this is something that only you should know and it should not reflect in your overall personality. Then after this, if you are not asked, ask the person or the interviewer how he or she is feeling. in normal circumstances, most interviewers will ask themselves, but if they don't pay show that you do, at the same time, try to engage yourself with the interviewers with some small talk.
As I mentioned earlier, there are a number of topics that you can discuss, you can probably discuss about how the offices but only do that if it is actually a good office. If it is not it will go against you. Otherwise, there are other topics that you can share, like for example, the weather reports, and also the general news that is prevailing around you. Keep in mind that your small talk should not last more than 60 seconds, because you don't want to waste time for the actual interview. Now while you're waiting for the interview to start, maybe you have couple of individuals who have to come in so that your interview formally starts, you can use this time to talk about the organization. So if you've done your research properly, and if you know what the organization has been going through all the recent events and everything, you can share your comments with the interviewers just to engage yourself in a healthy dialogue while you're waiting for other people to arrive.
What happens is that good interviewers in normal circumstances, start the conversation themselves. But are you that lucky? Do you think that you will come across a good interviewer? Probably not. So in that case, you have to plan for the worst and hope for the best. We have a dedicated lecture later in the course, which addresses how to tackle with bad interviewers.
But right now, you have to be fully prepared to start a conversation if it has not started by the interviewer and portray an image which is able to impress them in the best way possible. In the end, I would like to tell you that your main objective is that you have to convert this job interview into a job conversation and if you Done they successfully it means that you have laid down the foundations of a great interview.
