In this lesson, we're going to be assembling and adding a slip pocket to one of our lining pieces. And we are finally getting ready to use the sewing machine. So, here are the tools you're going to need for this lesson, of course your sewing machine, you're going to need to have your slip pocket pattern pieces. You have four for your slip pocket, but you're only going to need two for this lesson. You're going to need one lining piece, you're going to need pins a point Turner, which is optional. You'll see in the video that I don't use a point Turner but I do demonstrate how I turned my pattern piece to the right side and make sure it's nice and straight.

And you're also going to need your iron and ironing board. So let's get started. So the first thing we're going to do, we're going to work with your pocket piece and you only need to have your pocket pieces right now. Because we're going to assemble the slip pocket. The other two pieces will be for a zipper pocket. So let's take your two pieces and you're going to place them with the right sides facing and you're going to pin around.

Now when you get to the bottom to pin the bottom, you're going to leave About a three or four inch opening in the bottom when you take this to the sewing machine and you sew. So for example, you will start here at this pin. And if it will help you if you have different colored pins, go ahead and use a different code pin, or you can take a fabric marker and just mark the spot. So you will start here, so all the way around and stop here at the second pin, right, because you want to leave this opening because we have to turn this to the right side once we're finished sewing. Right. So go ahead, take it to the sewing machine.

Start at one pin so all the way around and stop at the other pin. And then we'll come back and we'll turn it to the right side press it. Now let's select slit pocket and you're going to sew around about a quarter of an inch Cut all of your loose threads and I'll meet you back at the table so we can finish up our slip. Alright, now take your slip pocket and trim the corners. get as close to the stitching as you can without going over the stitching. This helps when you get ready to turn it to the right side.

This helps your corners stay down better and make them look nice and neat. And if you want to you can trim some This top image and size down, don't trim the bottom where you left your opening because we're going to need that seam allowance when we turn the pocket. All right, so go ahead and turn your pockets to the right side using the opening that you left in the bottom. Now this will be the time where you can use the point Turner that I mentioned in the materials. This helps you turn out your corners a little better. I'm just using my hands.

If you don't have a point Turner you can use your pin. You can also use your scissors but she has to be careful and make sure that you don't cut through. She want to get it as smooth as possible and then press it Now make sure this opening that you live, go ahead and turn in that same allowance and then press. Now what you want to do, take your lining piece, and you're going to attach your slip pocket to that lining piece. Again, so you're going to find the center and I just do that by folding it in half You can mark it with a marking pin. If you iron over that, the mark goes away.

Take your ruler, measure down to one a quarter inches. Find the center of your pocket. And then place the center of your pocket at that two and a quarter inch mark that you made. Make sure the opening that you left is towards the bottom. Right so just take some pins. pin this in place and you go into so sew down the side across the bottom closing up that opening Back up the side you're not going to so this top is because that's the opening of your pocket.

Right so now this so our slip pocket to our lining piece. going to start on one side so across the bottom, making sure I close up this opening and back around the other side. Cut your loose threads and you can also go ahead and remove the pins and now you have your slip pocket it
