In this lesson, we are now assembling the zipper pocket and our other lining piece. So the tools you're going to need are one lining piece. Your two slip pockets, remember you have four and you use two for your slip pockets. So you're going to need the other two slip pockets, pins, or double sided tape, either one will work fine. Your nine inch zipper, your marking pin, a ruler, you're going to need your seam ripper, your fabric scissors, your iron and your ironing board. So let's get started.

So now let's work with the other two pocket pieces and one of your lining pieces. So the first thing we're going to do with one pocket piece and one lining piece, you're going to find the center in The easiest way for me to tell you to do this is to just fold your piece in half. Fold your piece in half, and kind of crease it a little bit in the middle. unfolded and then just mark your center and do the same thing with your pocket piece just folded in half and mark your center. So what you're going to do now, on the lighting piece on the lining piece at that center mark that you just made, you're going to measure down one and three quarter inches. So you just take your ruler, place it at the center mark and measure down one and three quarter inches.

All right. So now take your pocket piece that you mark the center and place it place the center mark at that one and three quarter inch mark that you just made. Take a pin and pin it down and you're placing these with the right side spacing. So now on the wrong side of this pocket piece at your center mark measure down one inch and make a mark. Now we're going to draw out the box that we need for our zipper because this is going to be our zipper pocket. All right, so what we're going to do, we're going to draw a seven by a half an inch rectangle at the mark where you measure down one inch and made a mark.

That's the center point. Go ahead and place your ruler, three and a half at the center point, so put the three and a half mark on your ruler at the center point. And you're going to draw out three and a half inches to your left and three and a half inches to your right. Right and that is your seven inch line. Then you take your ruler, each end of the line you make a line, a half an inch. Alright, so on each end, you draw An inch down.

And then you take your ruler and you just close up your rectangle. All right, so you should now have a seven by half an inch rectangle. Now on each end of the rectangle, you're going to measure in about a half an inch. And make sure that you're in the center of the rectangle And you're going to make a dat and make them and then just draw triangles from the.so the corners. So you're gonna draw a triangle from the dot that you made to the corner, the dot that you made to the corner. Right.

And we want to take our ruler and draw one more line, and that's the center line to each point of the triangle, all right, so you should have a box that looks like this. So what you're going to do, you're going to take this to the sewing machine and you're going to sew around the outside. of this rectangle that you just made, you're not, you're not slowing the triangles, you're not slowing the center line just around the outside. Right, so now let's circle around the outside of our rectangle. Cut your loose threads and we're going to take it back to the table so we can add a zipper. Alright, so now that we've sewn around our box here, you want to take your same river and starting at the point of that triangle that you may you want to poke a hole and you're just going to start an opening.

Once you have the opening started, you can take your scissors and just cut along that center line that you made and stop at the point of the other triangle. Right. And then what you want to do is cut your triangle. Cut as close to the stitching as you can without going over the stitching. So now what you're going to do is you want to pull your pocket through the opening. I'm just going to flip it to the wrong side and just pull this through.

Make sure you have your iron handy because we're going to press this All right. So flip it back to the right side and you're going to press get it as straight as you possibly can. If you find that you have a lot of bunching in the corners that just means that you didn't cut close enough to the stitching with your triangles. Alright, so now we're going to grab our zipper and we're going to attach a zipper to our opening. Alright, so take your zipper, you need to have at least a seven or nine inch zipper or longer, because the longer you can always cut off the asis. This zipper just happens to fit perfectly which never happens, but hey what you want to do If you want to take your zipper and you want to place it, you have the wrong side of your lining facing up.

You want to take this zipper and you want to place it so that the right side of the zipper is face down. There's a couple of ways you can hold your zipper in place you can use some pins. And if you use pins, you want to do this from the right side. So you flip it up so that the right side of the zipper is showing. And you want to make sure that your zipper is in the center here. And then you can take some pins and pin your zipper in place.

Only reason I don't like pants is some because sometimes it tends to bunch up the fabric. So I like to use a different method. So what you would do take some double sided tape, some clear double sided tape and peel your little piece off and cut it and you want to line it up right on the age of the zipper. And kind of just press it down with your fingernails and then peel the top layer off. All right, and do the same thing to the other side of the zipper. I actually found this double sided tape on the wish app and I got about five rolls for $1 so that was a pretty good deal.

They sell it at the Dollar Tree at Joanne's so you can find it at a lot of different places. Alright, so now that you have the double sided tape, you can place it and remember you're doing it on the right side of the zipper. So I'm flipping it to the right side. And I'm just making sure that everything is lined up and my zip is centered. And if it's not, you go ahead and just adjust. Right.

And when you solve this, make sure your zipper is long enough, because you don't want to sell over the hardware on your zipper because that will break your needle. If you're using a nylon zipper, you can still open the zipper to just not you can't sew over the silver part on the end of your zipper because that will break your needle. But you can definitely sell over the zipper tape if you're using a nylon zipper. So what you're going to do, you're going to take this to the sewing machine and you're going to sew around this zipper right and you just sewing to secure it in place. So you'll start Sometimes it's better to start in the middle so you can start in the middle. So down, go down the side, all the way around and then back to where you started.

Now let's switch to last zipper foot. Unless so our zipper in place for our zipper pocket. Right and I'm starting around the middle, and I'm going to sew down, around and back down until I get back to my original starting point. And move your zipper tab, unzip it to move it out of the way that makes it easier to sell Cut any loose threads. Now that you have your zipper sewn in place, go ahead and grab the other lining piece for the other part of your slip pocket. Place them with the right side spacing pin in place.

And once you have it all pins, you're going to sew all the way around about A quarter of an inch and that will complete your zipper pocket. Now make sure when you sewing the two lining pieces together that you're only sewing the two lining pieces. don't sew your actual bag line just the pieces of your pocket. All right, so you may have to do some maneuvering, like folding your actual lining back so you can sew this together. right so now your zipper pocket is complete. So if you flip it to the right side and you unzip it you have a pocket
