So moving over to the right hand panel now in the library module, there's a couple of new tabs, I'd like to introduce you to the very first tab at the top of the right hand panel is the histogram. Now the histogram is something that we'll look at in a lot more detail in session three when we get into the develop module. But let me say for now that the histogram is basically a graph. And what it's graphing is the brightness of all the various pixels throughout your image. So black is on the left and white is on the right, and all the shades of gray in between. So looking at this histogram here, with all most of the information down the left hand side, that would tell us it's a it's a reasonably document.

And if we just say what the images indeed it is, it's this image here in in Tokyo alleyway at night. So most of the information is down the left hand side of the histogram, if we were to and if we will, even Docker image here of the flamenco dancer in obviously a little bit highlight here on the face on the shoulders. But again, the majority of the information is down the left hand side of the histogram. If we were to go to a much brighter image like say, of this traditional Japanese bride here, you can see that we've got much more information up on the right hand side of the histogram with all this lovely sort of white area here of the gown and the, the headdress and so forth. So the histogram is a graph if we look at a pretty broadly broad range of tone in this image here, the waterfall, we've got highlights, we've got shadows, we've got mid tones, as you would expect to see in a landscape image and you can see the histogram showing and abundance in all areas throughout.

So that is the histogram another nice little feature of the histogram is this little snapshot of the camera settings. Down the bottom here are the metadata as it were. So you can see here this image of the waterfall was shot at ISO one 124 mil focal length f 20. And a two second exposure, whereas I in this image, you will see a much higher shutter speed because we've frozen some action of the boys jumping there. And it's 100 ISO still 70 mil 5.6, and one 200th of a second. So that's the, the metadata that we can see beneath the histogram and we'll talk about metadata in a lot more detail in another video very shortly.

What I'd like to talk about here is the first two tabs so the histogram we've had a quick look at, and the quick develop. So quick develop is a bit of an interesting one here in the library. Quick develop is like a very simplified version of the proper develop the basic tab in the develop module. So you can see here we've got white balance, temperature, tint and so forth. Sometimes when you first launch Lightroom, all of these are closed. So you might think oh, well as my quick develop, not have all those other settings that that David's does well.

All you need to do is open up these extra little options here. And the quick develop can become quite expansive. Now I'm just going to jump into my Develop module very quickly and show you that the see the very same settings. Sorry, let me go back there one more time, exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, blacks and so forth, back to develop exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, blacks, whites, so it's actually the same settings. The big differences here, we've got these lovely sliders that give us very precise control. Whereas back in the quick develop, we've just got these kind of dumb buttons that we can just kind of click so if I click on this image here, and finally increase the exposure, I can go quick.

And you can see my image here just got brighter if I want to go down, I go click and it goes back to where it was. So the quick develop is just a really simplified version of the develop module. I personally don't use it at all I don't touch that quick develop. I do all my develop adjustments in the development Using the very precise sliders, I think Adobe's attitude was for a very new Lightroom user who maybe was a little bit intimidated by the, the depth of the basic tab they want to be able to do is just some simple lightening or darkening of the images here in the in the library module. And you can certainly do that in quick develop just pressing these little buttons here. So the theory with the buttons is you've got two pointing to the left and two pointing to the right, so you've got a small adjustment to the right there, or a big adjustment there.

And you can see it's actually exposures in stops. So a third of a stop and a full stop for the photographers amongst us who understand what a stop is, then that's a you know, that's a unit of measurement used to to measure brightness basically on the camera. So to decrease by a third of a stop decreased by an entire stop there as well. So as I say, the quick develop tab I don't really use if I wasn't doing as much public demonstration as I'm doing with Lightroom, I'd probably right click there. And I'd say quick develop, turn it off. I don't need it.

I don't use it. But I won't do that. I'll right click again, and I'll turn it back on, because we'll keep it there. So my Lightroom looks very similar to Lightroom. And there's no confusion. So here we're getting our working our way through the library, we've looked through the overview, we've looked down the left hand panel, we're now making our way down the right hand panel, that's the histogram and the quick develop, both of which, ironically, are more substantially represented over in the develop module, histogram and quick develop, but certainly we've got a little glimpse into the power right here as well.

So in the next few videos, we'll finish off our right hand developed panel, we'll look at metadata and keywording and the library filter across the top as well. Okay,
