In the previous lesson, we've seen how to trace this G with a pencil. If you remember, at the very beginning of the lesson, I asked you to please switch off the snap in this area here, and also this area here. Now, I would like to walk you through a bit how it can help you please use this once you already know how to control a bit the pencil. Otherwise, instead of helping you, it may cause more trouble than anything. So the first thing is to understand that the global snapping, which is this area here is not exactly the same as the snapping contextual menu for the pencil. And this is the one we're going to be seeing here.

So we're going to be talking about the first icon along two notes of selected curves. I'm going to click on it. And right away you can see we have these little notes on our G and also you can see here, this visual cue loop The ruler appear. That line we saw before now it's green. This is for the vertical guides. These guides are called dynamic guides.

Now if I approach to the edge of the letter, you're going to see two things more, you're going to see the horizontal dynamic Guide, which is in red, and middle points where they need both of them the vertical and the horizontal, which is gonna be displaying yellow dots. So how can this help us the first icon, this if I'm drawing with a pencil, I'm going to draw somewhere else, and I'm placing my notes as you can see here, this is telling me that I'm exactly in horizontal line. If I move down, this is going to be aligning with the rest of the notes that I have on my compass. Okay, so it's always for horizontal line notes right. Now, if I come a little bit to the left Now this no damn two trays in here, this clique, it's also aligned vertically, it is not in here.

Then in this way this is them is displaying the vertical dynamic guide, and so on. Whatever the two lines green and red meats, you're going to get the yellow dots. I'm going to get rid of these. I'm going to show you a bit how this works while we're drawing. So, first thing, I'm going to click here, and I'm going to click here you can see perfectly that they are horizontal grid dynamic guide. Basically, that's what you want to know about this first one, which is to align your notes.

Okay, in horizontal. Now we're gonna go for the second one is not to geometry of selected curves. Well, it's pretty self explanatory. If I click on this, and I come over, you see how this is snapping to the curve. If I now select my letter and go back to the pen tool, you're going to see how my pencil is absolutely snapping to the edges of my letter. Okay, so this is what the second icon will do for you.

Now, let's see the third option, which is snap all selected nodes when dragging. The first thing you need to know is that this option only works when either the first or the second icons are active. In the Mac version, you're going to see it ghosted when these two are the activated, but I don't think it's the same for the windows option, which will always show you the icon in a normal way and with colors, but this is just a problem. So probably this will be fixed in the future. So it's consistent with the Mac version. Anyways, let's say well, let's just activate the first one to be able to combine it With these third option snap or select the nodes when dragging, and let's draw a curve.

Now, if I select this node, you can see that I can. I'm gonna do the same with the second note I selected and I come here and I snap it doesn't roll my way. I go back and now I select both of them. And I want to snap it here. It gets it's not and the same for my second node selected, I can snap it and so I can work with all the snapping guides perfectly. But say I have this deactivated.

What happens I have two notes selected but just one of them is going to be snapped nearly the first one you selected Okay, so this is working in such a way that the target node will be snapping all of your selected nodes. And our last one, which is snap off curve handles, so we click on it, and as we move or handles, you're gonna see how they snap when you have this option clicked, so basically what it's doing it's snapping notes and handles in a way that will help you position them exactly where you want. Like for example, right now what I did is creating a perfect straight line. My advice would be know these options and as you go working, you'll find very many situations where they can help you out working with notes. I consider this snapping something that is really useful once you really know how to use the pen tool.

And once you're working your projects, and all of a sudden Pan something snaps and say, Oh, yeah, I need to snap in, this is gonna help me out. I don't want to overwhelm you with these options, it's for me more important that you learn how to use the pen tool. But also knowing these options will come really handy to you in the long term. So now what I would like to do is I'm going to activate all of them. And I'm going to go over them quickly. So you see how this mapping options helped me in practice.

So I'm going to do this quickly so it doesn't take forever just for you to see what's going on. So first horizontal cue, grid, dynamic guide. Okay, now I'm going to come somewhere, here, drag. Now if I click here, I'm going to have these two notes perfectly. Not nice to note the all these notes, see here, they are all aligned. Okay, so I click here and I also pull here a beat, just to move it click in and command in my keyboard.

Now I have this one year, I come somewhere in the middle, I drug. See here. Now I want this one aligned with the bottom side of my G. Okay, so somewhere here, I need to pull a weight here in order to make it better. Remember, pressing and holding and command as we saw in other lessons. Now, the same procedure for this one here, and I pull, since I'm doing it fast, but you get the idea. Same for all these notes.

Now you just have to put a B, part of it here, here. And so you Go using the VCR cues that are going to help you get in a bar, getting your notes right away see horizontal perfect. And again, pool and track and so forth. I'm not going to keep going. I think you see the idea and I hope you make the best out of snapping in order to help you when you're drawing with a pencil.
