Hello, this is an introduction to a big subject called sociolinguistics. in very simple terms, socio linguistics is language in society or the use of language as used in social situations, social context, and so on. It covers areas such as formality and informality. It covers interactions between different groupings, maybe between races, maybe between social classes, maybe between a boss and an employee, etc, etc. So as you can see, context is very important. And we will be looking at this both in the video that follows and the file that comes afterwards which has some exercises for you to complete.
