Welcome back to another session of our tips on helping you help yourself start your fashion company. Today when I'm talking about sale, there are a few options designers out there a showroom. If you hire a showroom, it's going to cost you there are quite a bit of fees involved. And also keep in mind that showrooms want designers that have a track record. So if you don't have a track record, I don't want to discourage you. I'm just letting you know that they're looking for someone with a bit of a following.
And maybe you've gotten some write ups and that could get you in the door but showrooms are an option. If they're a very well known showroom. They have relationships with all of the retailers that you want to sell your collection to. Another option would be hiring an independent sales rep. This might be a great way to go sometimes they will take on designers that Don't have a huge sales record because they're representing other brands. And they tend to have a lower overhead than a showroom.
And it's kind of like a traveling salesman. That would be a good option. In both cases, you have to pay a percentage and in the showroom, specifically, you have to pay a rental fee. Now the option that might be best for young up starting designers might be selling your line yourself, which means hiring someone fresh out of school fresh out of fashion school to take care of your sales and deal directly with the buyers, as well as having your own online boutique. So you want to combine the two, having your online boutique will allow you to build your client basis. Now this is something that you can use for the showroom later on.
You know, the fact that you have a website that you're selling, you have consumers following you. looks great in the eyes of the showroom. So In that case, you hire your own sales rep. You have your own website, you build your your clientele, you build your exposure, and then maybe you'll be able to get into that showroom of your choice who has a relationship with all of the retailers that you want to sell your collection in. So, designers, good luck. I strongly recommend having someone in house that would be my first tip to say get someone in house, find the budget, hire an intern and have them focus specifically on outflow to buyers and building relationships with buyers. That's something that can be taught so that you don't pay huge budget in the beginning with the showroom.
