So, as the name suggests, it is going to spell out the host for this machine. So, this is the hostname. And if you want to know the IP address of this host, then you just have to write the option dash AI and it will spell out the IP. So, this is the hostname command.
Then after we have ping command, so it is the same as Windows. So ping command is used when we want to check whether the IP address or a URL that we have specified when sent a request to that, whether we are getting a response or not. And usually we check this when we want to check whether we have internet connection or not. So, if we write being www.google.com then as you can see, we are getting these responses from google.com. So, yeah, we are connected to internet and the server of Google is also running. And you have to press Ctrl C to exit from this and the other options also which you can use with this ping command, so, I'm going to Use one option that is dashed, I saw it is interval.
So I want them to be five seconds. So, every single request that will go it will be in the difference of five seconds. So, as you can see here, so it will create a delay of five seconds, then another is C that means count. And if I see five, so it is going to send only five requests and it is going to be terminated after that automatically. So this command in Linux is used if you want to download files from the internet, and you can download it from the websites which have the protocols HTTP, HTTPS and FTP.
