Security and privacy are important because it relates to an individual's ability to determine for themselves when, how, and for what purpose their personal information is handled by others. Privacy typically refers to the user's ability to control, access, and regulate their personal information, and security refers to the system that protects that data from getting into the wrong hands, through a breach, leak, or cyber-attack.
