Up next is a new type of water based extraction are decoction. A decoction is a concentrated extract of herbs that is made by simmering the plant material and water on low heat for 30 to 45 minutes. simmering is the main difference between the decoction and a tea or infusion, you simmer until the liquid has been reduced by at least half so that it is concentrated and that's that's your dosage amount will be less. Whereas with the standard infusion, you're drinking one cup at a time. With a decoction you're taking like a teaspoon to a tablespoon at a time depending on your preference and what herbs you've included. The toxins are used to drought the medicine of the tougher plant parts like the roots the seeds, barks, berries, resins fruit and rhizomes.

You don't decart the more delicate parts like the flowers or the leaves because this process will destroy some of the chemical compounds that in essence are the medicine by adding your preserving your decoction with sugar, alcohol or honey the cactus becomes syrups which are an excellent way to administer smaller yet potent doses of medicine that don't typically taste good as is often the case with roots This is an especially helpful preparation when you have to give better medicine to children or to anyone who refuses anything unpalatable. The captions are a little time consuming, though, right? It's not like a cup of tea in that way from start to finish, they can take an hour. So this medicine, you need to plan out and you aren't likely to make indepent I make the cocktails for things I know we're going to likely experience like costs for our son, and I have my own personal kidney liver blend, and my wife has her blend for her digestion.

It's medicine we're taking regularly daily, and I know I don't want to drink a whole couple. So making a decoction allows him to take a smaller amount and quickly. I know I'm going to need this medicine so I plan the time to make it and freeze it into small ice cubes to preserve it. This way. I know I only have to make it once a month or so. Let's get started on making a decoction you'll need the same equipment for making the decoction that you used for making your nourishing herbal infusion minus the nut milk bag.

Gather your kitchen scale your four quart pot with You live in a small container bowl to measure your herbs into the measurement for decoction is one ounce of our by weight to two cups of water. I'm making the stick actor with three herbs which are perfect for the cold flu season, elderberry, akinesia and roses. My measurement for each herb is one third of an ounce by weight plus all of your herbs into the pot after you've weighed them. Then add two cups of water, pouring it over the herbs and making sure that everything gets submerged in water. Next, turn on your heat to high and bring your decoction to a boil covered with the lid. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer covered for 30 to 45 minutes or until the liquid has been reduced to one cup.

This usually takes me about 45 minutes. It's important to keep an eye on your decoction as it simmers because if the heat is too high, it can burn that's destroying your medicine. After 45 minutes or so, you'll see that you'd have this rich deep colored medicine. Let it cool to room temperature. This allows the extraction process to continue strain out years. Press to be sure to get as much liquid out of the earliest possible point of decoction into a glass jack, cap, refrigerate and consume within three days or so so it doesn't spoil on you.

Now if you don't plan to continue decoction within three days or so do what I do and freeze the liquid into ice cube trays. This way you have it ready when you need it, and just pop a keyboard to enter your water bottle to drink throughout the day. And here's a tip for getting the most out of medicine. You can decocker those theme herbs one more time in an additional cup of water to drop any remaining medicine. then combine the two batches and drink or freeze it. Here's some of the herbs.
