Defending an off-angle underhand stab
An assailant may attempt to low stab you from an indirect angle. This type of attack, because of its short distance and rapidity, might require you to deflect/redirect the attack and immediately back away from the assailant using tsai-bake to either retreat or continue to defend against a follow-on attack. This defense uses a horizontal block with the nearside arm (similar to the instinctive underhand stab) to redirect/deflect.
