DESCRIPTION: Straight punch defense: Legs (preemptive kick) vs. hands (yellow belt)
Preemptive straight kick

Preemptive sidekick

Krav maga, whenever possible, uses either a preemptory linear straight kick defense using the superior reach of the defender’s legs or a deflection with a body defense to avoid an attack (including those with a weapon) and uses pretzel counterattacks to neutralize the threat.
While requiring advanced recognition and timing, a timing-defensive preemptive kick is extremely effective against any type of upper body attack including pushes, chokes, and any kind of upper body strike. This technique will preempt your attacker before the attacker can land his punch.
With enough distance and early recognition, you may use a lead straight timing kick to preempt or intercept an incoming hook punch before the attacker can reach you.
Note that a looping hook or haymaker punch must travel slightly over three times...
