Instinctive defense against a close underhand stab
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

This defense is used when the defender does not recognize the attack until the last possible moment, hence, its instinctive name. Optimally, awareness training would not allow anyone to come within attack range, especially if his or her hands are concealed.&nbsp;

Use a simultaneous block and counterattack to the face, jaw, or throat while not breaking contact from the weapon arm.&nbsp;
The block requires a ninety-degree bend of your elbow and a hollowing out of the hips while you deliver a counterstrike and move to control the weapon.&nbsp;
The counterstrike should stun your assailant and allow you to press the counterattack.&nbsp;
The blocking arm should target just above the assailant&rsquo;s wrist or where one would normally wear a wristwatch.&nbsp;
