Basic turn defense

The basic defense against the arm-bar at the most elemental level is to prevent the opponent from grabbing and securing your arm.

To defend the straight armbar technique variations, the instant you feel the opponent maneuvering for the arm-bar, you must turn into your opponent with your elbow tip down putting pressure directly into the opponent&rsquo;s groin.
Simultaneously reach through his legs with your other arm clasping your hands to ensure your elbow is protected.
You must not allow your opponent to pincer his legs because he will have other strong options available from this position.
If the armbar is executed properly by piercing the legs, all of his weight and core strength will be concentrated on destroying your elbow.
