DESCRIPTION: Edged weapons (hand range): Overhead off-angle attack (blue belt)

An assailant might be to the side of you and launch an overhead attack.
Again, this defense again relies on our instinct to block and move away from a blow or stab. The defense involves an outside rotational block with the forearm (ulna) while stepping off-line towards the assailant with your farside leg pivoting one hundred eighty degrees. Again, you should try to deflect the edged weapon as close as possible to the assailant’s wrist.

This “closing technique” brings you to the assailant’s dead side allowing for multiple body punches to the assailant’s kidneys.
Do not break contact with the attacker’s arm to maintain control.
Secure the assailant’s wrist with his elbow pinned against your torso making sure to stay well inside the edged weapon’s arc by keeping your torso nearly parallel with his torso.
Continue to press...
