The side headlock can jolt your neck and place you in a vulnerable position. This attack is common and often demonstrated on the playground. Your attacker can drop his weight to the ground to exert great force on your neck while forcing you down with the attacker. Alternatively, the attacker can torque your neck causing serious harm. The attacker could also punch you in the face repeatedly with the attacker&rsquo;s opposite arm or drive your head into a wall.
As for all defenses, the best defense against a headlock is to avoid being put into one. Reacting at the earliest possible moment is crucial. Against a side headlock, you could preempt the attack by delivering a sidekick or ducking beneath the grab as the attacker moves in on you. Nevertheless, if you are caught in a headlock:
