Common mistakes when performing overhead impact weapon defense:

Timing is incorrect; late movement.
Intercepting hand is incorrectly positioned; fingers must be conjoined (especially the thumb) with a slight bend in the hand.
Chin is not tucked with head buried into the shoulder.
Interception does not take place in the attacker’s incoming hand; rather it takes place against the impact weapon denoting poor timing.
Counterpunch does not occur/move in concert with deflection.
Footwork is incorrect; feet do not move equidistantly.
Weapon removal is uncontrolled and sloppy.
