In this video lecture, we're going to talk about how to manipulate backgrounds in Canva. So the background is really going to be the first thing that you're going to use whenever you're designing an album cover. The reason being is that's really like the base. It's kind of like the foundation of a house, you can't build the rest of the house without the foundation. The same thing with a album cover, you can't build the album cover without a background. It's the first thing you got to start with.

So we're going to get into this let's go ahead and click on one of these templates or one of these background patterns here. I'm going to show you here that we have some free ones or we have some paid once again, if you want to use this paid one and take the Canva logo off of here, you have to pay $1 but for the purposes of this course, again, we're using the free ones. Okay, so I'm going to go ahead and give you an example here. So what if you want to use it you click on it, and then say you want to change the color, click on that and then scroll down here to little circle, click there, and you can go and change the color, it's going to keep the pattern intact. Okay? Now, if you want to have a custom color, say you don't like the colors that are pre selected here, click on the plus sign, and then move these circles around the color wheel, or left or right, depending if you want to darker or lighter, okay?

So you have like, you know, something that you go with just like that. I mean, you can do this, this works with any of these different backgrounds. So click right here, click there, there, and you could change the color. If you notice they still have that same pattern effect. This is actually looks pretty nice. I like this color.

So, just wanted to show you briefly how to manipulate backgrounds. There's a few other things you can do. If you click again here, I'm going to move this up just so you can see these options and Click on this little down arrow says more. Okay, you can flip it horizontally vertically and mess with the transparency. Transparency is going to basically make it fade in or out of the out of the whole picture. And most of the time and backgrounds you're going to leave it, this fully stated, you know, mean, it's not going to have the transparency effect on most backgrounds.

Okay. One last thing you could do is you click on this filter here, and there's several different effects. They have an epic effect. Basically just brings a shadow in more on the different corners. Okay. Or you can do a drama effect.

But I just wanted to show you that there's several different things you can do here and you also can affect the way it looks is well, there's advanced options. You can come in The brightness of it come into darkness, you can do mess with the contrast to give a different feel to that background, the saturation, different tints of that same color, you can even blur this pattern out. Now that kind of looks like foil, actually right here, that's a pretty good effect. And so if you come in here and mess with the advanced features, you're going to see that you have more options to mess with on this background. Now lasting here, if you click on it and come over here to these circles on the size or the corners, you can enlarge it or shrink this background. This is all usually good to have it enlarged or right on the actual pallet here.

Want to match it up pretty evenly. Alright, so that's pretty much that as far as backgrounds. Thank you for watching. I'll see you in the next lecture.
