DESCRIPTION: 
As for most of us, my early personal experiences with the concept of success came from both internal and external feedback from the world around me. Externally, all the people around me told me how successful I was by saying whether I performed well or was I good or bad. My initial understanding of being successful was outward-oriented, did I meet others&rsquo; standards and expectations for me.
I also experience feelings of being successful by excelling in different areas of personal performance. I began to label these things as my &lsquo;strengths and areas I can be successful at doing. This is part of our self-discovery of who we are and how we fit best in the world in which we live.
This feedback process influences the development of our self-image, self-esteem, and self-confidence. Each of these affects our understanding of this concept of success and what it means to me. It also influences how we will determine what control we have, if any, over our own success.
