Welcome back to 20 moves in 20 days. Today we are going to learn drags and drag turns. Okay? So you actually kind of get a bonus move today, but they work so well together, I just had to throw them in. Alright. drags are usually used as a step that gets you quickly from point A to point B, they travel right to left depending on which way you want to go.

And they, they are often used, I guess the best way to describe them as they are a traveling step. And they're often used in that capacity to kind of get you somewhere relatively quickly, in a different way than say, a jazz walk or run or something like that would be alright. So I'm gonna do just the steps First, we're gonna find out a couple times and then we'll add the arms. That's a pretty essential component to what the drag is. So starting from over here, I'm going to head to my right, all I'm going to do is How with my right. And then I'm gonna drag the left toe right there, and I'm going to cross it in front.

Okay, so I'm stepping out, allowing my left foot to drag, drag. See how that works right there. I'm pointing my toe, but it's kind of dragging along the floor, and then I cross it in front. So step out, drag, and cross. All right, let's see that again. We have, step out, drag, and cross, step out, drag, cross, drag, cross.

Good. Let's do it to the left, to the left. So we have one, drag up to the side, and cross drag. Drag. Good. One more time.

And then we'll do it right and left. And I'll face the other way so you can really see it clearly. So goes dry and cross, drag and cross, drag and cross Excellent. Okay, facing this way, I'm gonna start to the right. I go, step out with my right, drag my left, and then cross in front, step out, drag, and cross, step out, drag, and cross. Okay, now heading towards the other side, step out first, drag here, cross in front, drag, cross, drag, cross.

Good. Now we're gonna use our arms and coordinate our arms, so their legs. So, what you're gonna do is, if I'm heading to the right, my arms are gonna do this. For the drag portion. When I cross, I'm going to bring my top arm up and over. Okay, so what happens is, it's nice and straight here.

It curves over my head, comes straight down my body. This is the motion. Okay, so now if I'm heading to the right, it's going to be my right arm doing all the work and my left arm does not move. It just gets us They hang out the whole time. Okay, so it's just this motion here. So I'm going to face you first and show you what that looks like.

And then we'll do it facing away. So I go, one, and cross two, and crop. Three, and cross. Good. I'm gonna face away. Here we go.

One and cross two, and crumbs. Three, and cross. Yes. So the crossing motion of my legs, also coordinates with the crossing up and over my arms. All right, so let's try it to the left. I'm going to start by facing you so you can see it.

Since I'm heading to the left, my left arm is now going to do all the work. My right arm just gets to hang out. My left arm goes up and overhead just like so. Yep. Okay, so here we go to the left we go. One and cross, two and cross Three and cross the face away.

So you can see that view as well. We go one, and two, and cross three and cross. Good. So what's fun about drags is that you have that ability, like I said before to move quickly to one space or another in the room and then you can very easily from here, even without the cross, you can swing that leg behind and do like a jazz square, or something like that, or a pot of ray which we'll learn in the future. So really, one of my favorites, okay. I would recommend practicing just that for a little while, especially if the coordination of the arms is kind of tripping you up.

You can just practice the feet for a while, and then add in the arms when you're comfortable with the feet. But again, eventually he will want to work on the coordination of the two If you're feeling like okay, I got that sorted, I have a, I have a grasp on it, then let's go ahead and talk about a drag. So it's really similar concept, the arms stay the same, they're gonna still do that same coordination. The only thing that changes is that during the drag portion, you're going to actually turn one, you're going to turn one whole turn all the way around. So what happens is, if I am going to my right, I'm going to still head in this direction. But what I'm going to do is step out, let my left foot drag behind, and then cross it over after the turn is completed.

I'm going to use my right shoulder pushing back here to really help me complete that turn. So from here, I'm going to step push my right shoulder back while turning to the right here, I made it all Background and then I'm going to cry. And that's when my arm moves, right? So from here I step, turn, step, turn, cross. Okay, I'm going to show you that facing this other way. So I'm going to go, step, turn, cross, step, turn, crops.

Step, turn, cross. Now, if you'll notice when I'm turning, I'm very, very slightly lifting my heel off the ground to help help eliminate some of the friction that happens when you're trying to turn. But I don't make a big deal about it. It's not all weigh up on Demi point, for instance. It's it's mostly a flat footed turn. So I want to be careful that I'm doing that correctly.

The biggest thing that people usually struggle with is not being able to get all the way around And again, what I would say is you have to really focus on opening up that right shoulder. And if you do that, while you're playing on that leading like here, right now, if I just do this, I can make it halfway around, right? And so that alone, that momentum here is really going to help get you around. Now, note that I still have my extended leg, and it is still going to be out to the side and it's still going to have a point in foot. Okay. All right, let's try to the left.

So remember, when I go to the left, my left arm is going to be leaning. It's going to be the one to do all the work. And then this time, I'm going to think about my left shoulder opening up. So I'm going to turn to the left and I go like so. One, turn, cross. Step, turn, cross, step, turn, cross.

Good. Now face the back. So we step out first, step, turn, cross, step, turn, step, turn. Alright, so if you want to do a fun kind of combination or variation on practicing both of them, what I often do with my students is up to plane drives and then a drag, turn. So it goes, drag, cross, drag, drag, turn, cross, drag, cross, drag, cross, drag, turn, cross. Okay?

So if you want to practice that, I'm just gonna do it one time, right, and then one time left, and then you can kind of play with any variations you would like to. So to the right, I'm gonna step right, cross, right, cross, right, turn, cross. Good. Now I'm gonna go to the left and ready. Drag crap. Drag, cross, drag, turn.

Good work. All right. Excellent. You've learned your drags and your drag turns today. So you actually did double duty. Good job on that.

I will see you tomorrow.
