DESCRIPTION: Insight #1: (Re)Connect with your “Self” and your children will be at the heart of your healing journey.
I began to (re)connect with myself and with my children once I saw how disconnected we were as we grieved.
I learned about this important first step from a number of places: from a parenting course I enrolled in, from forgetting all about the lessons in the parenting course I had taken, and from making a decision to bring more joy into my family once again.
But mostly I learned about the importance of (re)connecting by paying more attention to my life before and after the intensity of feeling the grief and the loss, and I learned about it from paying attention to why I wasn’t paying attention to my feelings about my life or my family when things got really tough.
This idea of (re)connecting became and remains a critical reminder of what it takes to navigate loss. Not only for myself but also for my children.
