Hello, and welcome to dealing with conflict of work. I'm Mike Clayton. I'm a former senior manager with Deloitte Consulting specializing in project and program delivery. But for the last 15 years, I've been training professionals, leaders, managers, and supervisors in professional and management effectiveness skills. I'm also the author of 14 books, and perhaps most relevant, I produce many training videos for managers, and project managers. So let's take a look at what you'll be able to do.
When you finished this course. You'll be able to recognize the signs of conflict early so you have a chance to stop it. You'll be able to reduce the incidence of conflict by listening well and Understand how conflict escalates. So you can stay calm and stop the escalation, you'll be able to de escalate conflict. So you bring your relationship back to normal, and resolve conflict using a variety of strategies and tactics. And finally, you'll be able to develop your resistance to being drawn into conflict.
That's only a sampler of what you will learn. There's plenty more. In fact, I'll put up on screen now, a list of the topics we'll cover. You may want to know, how can you practice what you're learning and this is really important. And it's not an easy topic to create practice exercises for because I don't want you to go out and get yourself into conflict so you can practice de escalating it. So what I've created for you is a conflict journal.
It consists of a number of exercises Many of which contain observation and reflection stages. As you work your way through the program, you'll be able to complete your conflict journal and a series of points to reflect on what you're learning and to share it with other students of the course. And of course they are, I will be able to respond to your comments, congratulating you on your successes, and giving you feedback on the issues and questions you encounter. I've really enjoyed preparing this course it's one of my favorite courses to deliver in a live environment. I hope you're going to get as much out of it as I have put into it. Good luck with handling conflict effectively.
