Hi everyone, and welcome back to the simple vector Knights tutorial. In this lesson, we'll learn how to create the base character was learning some of the tools necessary to complete the course. So let's start by creating a new document by going to File and New. And then select the width and the height of the document. So I've chosen 850 by 850. Click on creates, and this will create a new artboard 850 by 850.
But don't feel restricted by the artboard. However, as we can still work outside the artboards like so. Excellent. So now let's now that we've, we've got this artboard make let's make sure that we're using the same workspace. So go to Window, go to workspace, and then select essentials classic and then reset essentials classic like so. Just gonna collapse this here.
Excellent. So let's start with creating the base character shape for our Knights. Starting with the head, not the jaw the head, just go to the shapes tool here, hold, click and hold the left mouse button and select Ellipse tool. Now this will allow us to create some ellipses of any size. However, to create a perfect circle for our head, you want to hold the shift key on the keyboard and then click and drag with the mouse as you normally would to create a perfect circle. Like so.
Cool. So first of all, let's create or Let's choose a color for our character. So at the top here, let's make sure that we select a nun for the stroke and overhead. Let's choose a color for character, choose something here, double click here. Just make it a little bit a little bit warmer, like so. Cool.
And now let's tick and draw a circle for character by holding the Shift key to create a perfect circle. Excellent. Now that we have our circle head, the next thing that we want to do is to create a chin for character. So let's go to the shapes tool again. And this time let's choose a rounded rectangle tool. Now when creating a rounded rectangle, you can actually control the corner of the curves by pressing the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard.
So you can see here that by pressing the up key By pressing the down key, see if I can make the corners sharp and they can see the values at the bottom getting smaller and smaller. So I can make them sharp like so. So the roundness is at zero points. Or if I press the up key, I can make the roundness bigger. So at 50 points, like so. Cool.
So let's go ahead and create the chin for characters. I'm just going to zoom in to our circle here by pressing Control and the plus key on the keyboard. I'm just going to use the rounded rectangle tool to create a chin like so. And then using the selection tool, just moving it up, just going to make the circle a little bit smaller. Just moving it into place. Excellent.
So once you're happy with the placement of the cin, what we'll need to do is we'll need to select both shapes. And then using the Align tool here, let's go ahead and click on the Align panel. We want to horizontally align to the center and make sure that you are aligning the selection. So align to selection and then click on this button here to make sure that they're both in the center of each other. And once you're happy with that, press Ctrl and G on the keyboard to group them. So now every time you select either of the shapes, they'll be selected together.
Excellent. So now let's create the torso. So in order to create the torso, let's choose a slightly darker color, like so. Slightly talk color. And now let's choose the rounded rectangle again. Let's go ahead and create a torso like so.
So this will be the chest of our character. moving it to the center. Just see me out here a little bit and then creates a nother vertical rectangle here like so. And this will be the abdomen So now that you've got the torso for the body, let's go ahead and start creating the arms for our character. And this will be the same again, we'll just use the rounded rectangle tool. And this time let's create a sort of sausage shape, like so.
And let's go ahead and use the eyedropper tool so select I on the keyboard and select the head color for this one. Okay, it's an arm here. And let's go ahead and rotate to this slightly like so. Just place it over here. And then press Ctrl C on the keyboard and then Ctrl V to paste. We'll create a another arm here.
Rotate it slightly this way and then place it like so. Now the torso slides a little bit too big for my liking. So let's go ahead and select both of these shapes and just make it slightly smaller like so and bring it back into the middle. Excellent. So once you're happy with the placement of the arms and the torso, let's go ahead and select both the arms. Press Ctrl G on the keyboard to group select both shapes, the torso and the torso because this is a symmetrical shape, let's go ahead and align this to the center again just to make sure it's in the middle.
Then press Ctrl G to group those as well. And let's go ahead and duplicate the arms so Ctrl C to copy and then Ctrl V to paste these arms. Now for the arm here, we want to flip this horizontally. And to do that, press the right mouse button, go to transform, select reflect. And then select the vertical and press OK. And this will flip the arm vertically. Excellent.
Now we can go ahead and place this where we want. Cool. Now in order to make sure that the arms are also aligned correctly, let's go ahead and select both the arms select align, and this time vertical aligned to center. So you can see that that arm moves this episode slightly there. And with both arms selected, press Ctrl G on the keyboard. And now with all of the items, everyone's select all of them.
We can align all of these To the center just to make sure that everything is in the middle. Excellent. Now the next thing that we want to do is we want to create the legs. So again, using the rounded rectangle tool, let's go ahead and create the thighs for our character. So these will be our thighs. And then let's create the shins for our characters.
These will be a slightly smaller sausage like so. Bring the up slightly move this slightly there. Please keep that unlined. like that and make it slightly bigger. Excellent. slightly bigger, like so.
Cool. So now we've got one leg. We can now rotate this using the selection tool or V on the Keyboard. So let's rotate this slightly, then move this into position like so we can actually make this a little bit longer. And for the torso, he wants to move this to the front. So right click on the torso, arrange, Bring to Front.
And we can now group the leg and copy Ctrl V, control C to copy and then Ctrl V to paste it. And we'll do the same thing with the leg as what we did with the arm. So go ahead and right click transform. And let's go to reflect. So I move this up here, so you'll be able to see so transform and reflect. reflect this vertically.
Click OK. And now just move this to the correct position like so. Now, you'll see that the leg is in front of the torso. So all you have to do is right click and arrange. And we can send this backwards or sent to back. Just move it up here so you can see right click arrange, send backwards, or since the back then we can place this, like so. Cool.
So now we have the legs, the arms and the torso. The last thing that we need are the feet. That's create the feet. Just select the Ellipse tool, create a perfect circle again. And this time, let's select the Direct Selection tool. And we want to select one of the anchors here like this.
So select the bottom anchor, delete that. So now we're left with half a circle. And with this half circle, we can actually place this as often Like so, just Ctrl C to copy and then Ctrl V to paste. And we can place these where we want them. Excellent. So this is the base of our knights, we can actually start to resize parts of the body here like so.
Just experiment with the different size of these shapes until you're happy with the base of your lights, and also remember to use the alignment tool. So again, with the legs here, select both legs align and then vertically aligned to center to make sure that they're together. Same with the feet vertically align this to the center And once you're happy with that, you want to group both of these objects. Select both Ctrl G to group and then select the whole body. And then align this horizontally to the center just to make sure everything is centralized. And there we have it.
That's it for this lesson. You can also experiment with different skin tones if you like. So let's go ahead and select the head for example. And over here, we can select the different skin tones for our body. Like so. Excellent.
In the next video, we'll create the armor for night character. see you all there.
