In this special bonus video, we'll take a couple minutes to cover a few of my favorite extensions. So in one of our earlier videos, we learned how to change styles by selecting the text and very much like where you can come in and change the different styles. But as I mentioned, then, you can't customize those styles, you can't actually change them, because by default, you can't do that in OneNote. Fortunately, you can get some great add ins that extend the capability of what OneNote can do. Now, I didn't include them earlier in the class because they are an added cost. So I wanted to cover the basics of OneNote first, before we go to advanced, but one of the add ons that I use is called OneNote gems, and it costs about 33 bucks for OneNote gem.

But if you use OneNote day in day out like I do, it's definitely worth it. And there's a lot of different things that you can do with OneNote. Jim there's a lot of various you can see it adds a ton functionality in here. And we'll take a look at it here in a little bit. But that's that's one of them. The other one that I use is called one task stick.

And again, this one is not free, they have a free version. But it costs 15 bucks or so for the pro version. Really, really cool stuff. And essentially what one tasks IQ does is allows you to access all of these different macros. So there's 465 different macros that people have written in sort pages at a table of contents, insert a monthly calendar, a ton of different things that you can do search and replace. Again, it's really really helpful for the good to get similar functionality like in Word where you can search and replace text because you can't do that by default in OneNote, it really just adds on to it.

Or if you're familiar with code, you can actually use one task and add in your own custom macros that you want to. So let's take a look at some of these in action. I'm going to hop back over to OneNote here, hop into options. Just to kind of show how I use these, again, kind of showing you my workflow. So hopefully it'll help spark some ideas for your, your own. Coming to admins, and I have them disabled for this course.

Enable them there. There we go. And now that they're enabled, you can see I get these extra tabs, right. So first, let's start with actually one task, right. So this is one task over here, you can see these, this has been added. So I have these macros.

So the macros up here on this tab. These are just a few of them that I use. So I have my word count so I can see the word count. So I'm six words on this really, really great. I collect the URLs or the background color, if I want to change the background color, say I want to make it a dark gray, I can do that. You can change the background color.

There. Again, some some pretty cool stuff in OneNote itself, you can come in and you can change the page color. But these are the only options that you can choose from. And so I like to be able to customize it. So I can come in and change this to whatever I want. Or I can actually add in my own hex number, just like if you're coding on the web, you can do that.

And now, you can change this around to give it a completely different look that you want. So again, it's really just kind of how you want to customize it to your own needs, but you can do that using one task. As far as Jim, there's a lot of stuff you can do in here, I'm not going to go through all of it, ton of stuff, you know, find and replace using templates more. But one of the common things that I like to do again, we have our word count, we can do that. We can actually save this out as a Word document or PDF. If we want to do that.

We can save that out there. We also have the ability to use our styles that we talked about. So we have the styles here, but we can manage them, which means we can come in and create new ones. And you can actually do that with oops, if I head back to home, you can actually do that with one tactic as well. It has its own styles built in. So you can manage these.

Adjust them however you want. Right? So we can change that. We select this, make it a custom style if we wanted to do that. So what we would do is come in and say I want to change my fonts, something kind of ridiculous. There we go.

So this is this is my favorite way to do a header right. So I can come in, save this as as a style. So this is my awesome. I can type There we go. change that. And now that's one of my style.

So now if I come in and change this text It's a little bit hard to see there because I changed the background color. But if I change that, now I can come in and adjust that to my, my new style. And very, very similar concept inside of gym, there is a lot of overlap inside of gym and one tactic. I use both because there are a few things like fine replace that I like in gym that you can do with one task. But the way that it's been written in the macro, sometimes I'm not a big fan of, again, you if you use OneNote on a day to day basis like I do, it's it's really worth the extra cost just to add that, that in there. Speaking of which, let me actually hop over here and I'm going to open up two notebooks that I use for my podcast.

That's where I do a lot of work inside of OneNote is for the podcast. So I have my based on a true story, which is the name of the podcast, and then I also have the archive. So my basic process here is if I hop Over to needed to actually open this one. There we go. So, in here, basically I'll have a tab for each of the episodes. And then you can see all of the various articles and various things that I've actually done pulled four research.

And then what I'll do is I'll have this view open, so open a new view. Let me make this smaller, and switch this over here. Again, I've kind of gone through this before, but you can see exactly how I do it. So by switch my so this is writing, right, so this is what I've written for this. And then this is all the research so I'll just resize this and it works a lot better when you're not recording a video and with limited screen real estate, you have the entire screen like I actually have multiple monitors. So have it up on one monitor and the other.

So this is all the writing and then I have the various reasons Search that can pull from in here or if I need to pull in New research, I can do that as well. Of course, you know, searching the web in that, that regard, we already learn how to do all of that. But one thing I wanted to show here is once I have all of this done, I can come into one tactic, and I can collect all of these clip URLs. This is actually the primary reason why I bought one tactic was for this one thing. And this was actually something that the author of the tool, one tactic, I reached out to him really great guy and he helped write this for me. So essentially, I can come in, clip all of this and watch what's going to happen.

It's going to go through everything in this section. And it's going to give me a single list of all of the various sources that I've captured. So all of the different web pages that I've captured, once we give it a moment, here we go. It's running that and it should finish up here in a Second. All right, there we go. So this is all of the clip URLs.

So this is literally just a list of all of the different sources that I have. And I use this, I'll just cut and then take this, and then throw that as the actual sources for each episode of the podcast so people can see and they can start to dive in a little bit deeper into all the different articles and different research that I've done for any individual episode. Of course, it doesn't show things like you know, inside the actual books themselves, but then that's copyrighted material. And so, you know, read a lot of books and then just link to the actual Amazon page there. Alright, so that's a look at my two favorite add ins for OneNote. And I know we covered a lot in this video.

We didn't really get a chance to go through all the different things, but hopefully it gives you an idea of how you can start to use OneNote. And of course, they're not required but it does really actually Extend the capability of OneNote to get stuff done. And now I'd like to throw the question back to you. How do you use OneNote?
