DESCRIPTION:
How to use 'Threshold' to find the darkest and lightest pixels in the image, then put down a Colour Sampler marker on top of an example of each.
The markers record 'before' and 'after' adjustments, so you can keep track of exactly what you're doing to the image. Then you can use the output levels (in the Levels panel) to 'squeeze' the histogram so that the darkest pixels change from 100% to 96%, and the lightest from 0% to 6%.
That means when the image is printed, both ends of the tone range will pick up the contrast and edge back out to 100% and 0%.
