About the Class

This course is a renewal requirement for the holder of a NYC Department of Buildings Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator Certificate.

This course is also a required course that can help fulfill the requirement for an individual applying for a Site Safety Training Card.

Important: This self-paced online course is only valid for SST renewal and cannot be used for Construction Superintendent renewal. To renew your Construction Superintendent license, you must complete training through a live, in-person class or a live Zoom session.

Requirements

To renew a Site Safety Manager Certificate, the applicant must complete 8 hours of refresher training as mandated by Title 1 of the Rules of the City of New York § 104-06 Continuing Education Requirements. To renew a Site Safety Coordinator Certificate, the applicant must complete 8 hours of refresher training as mandated by Title 1 of the Rules of the City of New York § 104-06 Continuing Education Requirements. In order to continue to operate in the City of New York, the designated construction worker is required to complete a minimum number of hours of approved site safety training and to carry site safety identification cards as proof of completion of the training (As per New York City Local Law 196 of 2017, also known as ‘LL196’ or ‘Local Law’). This course provides eight hours to satisfy that requirement.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the roles and responsibilities of NYC Site Safety Managers, Coordinators, and other safety personnel.
  • Identify common causes of construction site accidents and recommend appropriate preventative measures.
  • Explain DOB certification renewal requirements and disciplinary procedures.
  • Interpret OSHA 1926 standards with a focus on the “Fatal Four” hazards.
  • Apply relevant NYC Construction Codes, including Chapter 33, Title 1 Rules, and 2014 Fire Code, to construction safety planning.
  • Recognize and respond to jobsite safety violations, emergency situations, and recurring hazards.
  • Evaluate the requirements and purpose of a Site Safety Plan.
  • Discuss the correct procedures for 311 Unsafe Condition notifications and integrity reporting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge retention through successful completion of a final written assessment.

Course Requirements:

  • Submit verification of records that show that you are the person taking the course by uploading a headshot and ID at the beginning of the course.
  • 100% attendance for the 8-hour site safety manager course online.
  • Completion of Continuing Education and Training Registration Form (If Necessary).
  • Completion of all course modules.
  • Passing the final quiz with a minimum score of 70%.
  • Participation and submittal of the end-of-course evaluation form (must provide name on form to receive credit).

Confirmation of Satisfactory Completion

To confirm that learners have satisfactorily completed the course, the following measures are in place:

  • Final Assessment: Learners must complete a final quiz and achieve a score of at least 70% to pass. The quiz is automatically graded by the platform.

  • Certificate Issuance: After meeting all course requirements, learners receive a digital certificate of completion, which includes their name, course title, completion date, and CEU credits earned (If requested).
