DESCRIPTION: Rock materials used as building stone and construction materials are usually subjected to the corrosion of hydro-chemical solutions. To investigate the effect of chemical corrosion on the change of pore structure and mechanical properties of sandstones, the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique was used for the measurement of porosity and T2 spectrum distribution. T2 spectrum is essentially a reading of how the transverse portion of materials decay. In recent years, research on the changes of microstructure of rocks subjected to chemical corrosion has increased. However investigating the alteration of pore structure of rock treated with chemical corrosion using NMR technique has been very limited. Experiments were performed in which fine grained sandstone was exposed to 3 different solutions; H2SO4, NaOH and Distilled water. The pH of these solutions overtime as they are exposed to sandstone was recorded in Figure 1 below.
