Welcome to Interview Skills for Accountants. This is our agenda for the course

Transcript

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to interview skills for accountants. I'm Ross Maynard. I'm an a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Now we accountants are great at projects, give us a Gantt chart, give us a list of transactions to conduct, give us a task list, and we could not knock it off at 300 yards. But we're less good at presenting ourselves to a bunch of strangers in an environment that we're not used to. About to face questions that we're not necessarily prepared for already for.

And that, of course, is the interview situation. accountants are not naturally performers were more naturally project geeks. As Samuel West, the actor here in the UK said it would have been hard to do something else to as it were, run away from the circus and become an accountant. I doubt many actors secretly want to become accountants. And I doubt many accountants secretly want to become actors. So what do we need to do?

Well, we need to plan and prepare for our interview in the way that works for us as accountants, we need to plan it as an accountancy project as a finance project. Until that end, I have prepared the interview skills balance sheet. So here it is. On the screen, we have our fixed assets. We have current assets, current liabilities, long term liabilities, and shareholder funds. And we're going to go through each section of this in some detail.

Our agenda for interview skills for accountants, is as follows. Next, we'll look at the interview skills balance sheet in detail what each of the sections mean, how you can use your skills and capabilities to complete the interview skills balance sheet and prepare for interview opportunities. After that, we look at Preparing for your interview. Then at the interview itself, other types of interview that you might be faced with what you should do after the interview, how you can build your skills by becoming part of an interview panel. So the accountant as interviewer, what you can do now to prepare for interviews and to develop your career. The key learning points from this course.

And then finally, we have a section on sample interview questions.
