DESCRIPTION: What is a Script Analysis: Breaking a script down with Markings to indicate important shifts in the story and character.

In understanding the character, one must understand what’s happening from moment to moment in each scene. One way of doing this is through script analysis. To break down the script, first read it multiple times to grasp the material. Then, take each scene and mark your script with markings such as, during important changes such as shifts in tone, attitude, or topic of conversation. Another word describing these changes is called a beat. To further elaborate, here’s how to do it!

Please be sure to note scene changes by looking for setting changes, time passes, or switch of characters. As mentioned during the character development video, please be sure to read the script and asks yourself simple questions about your character like “How” Why” and “What” throughout the reading.
