In this tip, I want to show you where it's great rebuild formatting feature. If you're having problems with your formatting, or you want to check the formatting in a paragraph, you can turn on reveal formatting. So first, let's make sure we're on the Home tab. We'll come over to the Styles group, and we'll turn on the style sidebar. Once we turn on the style sidebar, we'll go to the bottom and click on style inspector. From the style inspector sidebar, we'll go to the bottom again, and click on reveal formatting.

This will open up the reveal format in sidebar. This is a great feature because it shows you all the formatting within your selected text. And each of the formatting options is a hyperlink so you can go to it and make any necessary changes. I know this has taken up a lot of real estate on our screen. So let's go ahead and close out the silence specter. There's another great feature that reveal formatting does that I want to show you so let's go back over to our document.

Let's come down to our paragraphs here. Now, we want to see what the differences are between the two paragraphs. Right away, we can see that there's an indentation change between the first paragraph and the second paragraph, because I've got my paragraph markers on, and I can see it right here. But instead of having to click in a paragraph, and come over and look at all the formatting set within it, then going to the second one and doing the same thing, we can compare the two selections and find all the differences right away. So with our first paragraph highlighted, let's come over to reveal format inside bar and click compare to another selection. Once we do that, let's come back over to our second paragraph and highlight it and come back over to the reveal formatting sidebar.

And we can see as soon as we did that, the formatting differences box is now showing us the differences between the two paragraphs. And what it does is it'll show you the first paragraph versus the second paragraph or the first selection. versus the second selection. So we can see all of our differences are in indentation. There's a left indent a point five set in the first paragraph and not in the second. There's no hanging indent in the first paragraph, but there is a point five in the second.

And for right indent, there is nothing in the first paragraph, but there's a point five in the second. So you can see that it's really quick and finding the differences. So now we can make any of our necessary changes. Let's go ahead and run another sample. So I'm going to turn off the compared to another selection, come back to my document and scroll down a little bit. I've got two paragraphs here.

There's a couple differences in them. And I know right away, there's a font difference because I can tell that by just coming up and looking here, but there's another difference between the two paragraphs. So let's go ahead and run our compare. we'll highlight the first paragraph, click the Compare to another selection. Come back and highlight the second paragraph one We do that look at our formatting differences. There's the obvious font difference.

But we've also got character spacing kerning turned on, and the second one where it's not turned on and the first one. That's a more subtle difference between the paragraphs and it's harder to find by visually looking at your document. So it's great that we can come in and check it out through reveal formatting. So let's go ahead and click on character spacing. It takes us out so we can turn off the kerning on the second paragraph. So as a quick review, revealed formatting allows you to look at all the formatting within selected text.

And it also lets you compare selections quickly to find the differences. It's also a great feature to use to see if somebody manually made formatting changes to paragraphs that included styles. So keep reveal formatting in mind when you've run into problems with formatting and styles.
