So here's a little tip: be true to yourself.
Identify what it is that will get you excited about this life; what it is that will get you living your life with integrity and passion. Start asking yourself 'What's In It For Me to do what I intend doing’ and if it really gets your juices flowing – do it. When you learn to respect yourself in this manner you will get to recognize and respect that everybody, then, has the right to be doing exactly the same in their lives.
You will then start being considerate of the 'What's In It For Me' considerations of others when you approach them to do things with you, or for you. Now, don't get me wrong, this has nothing to do with taking a selfish approach to life.
