Hi there, and welcome to step number three of your English transformation. By now, you should be feeling much more confident when you're pronouncing some words in English. And also you should be feeling an increased level of connection between your words and your English speech in general. Now, today, we'll cover the third and final step of our speaking pillar, our accent development in English. And the name of this step is impressive intonation. To start, I would love to give A demonstration of the power and the importance of intonation.

Are you ready? So let's go back to the beginning. Imagine the video starts now. And you are clicking played right now. So Lights, camera and action. Hello, my name is G and today we will see a very interesting topic which is called intonation.

Today we'll learn to integrate the sentences very effectively so you can speak fluently connect with them with great intonation and make it excited for people. Right. How does that sound? Is that good? Not really, right? Because what's missing?

I mean, my pronunciation is good. My fluency is good. I'm speaking connectedly What's missing? I'm not making you feel anything. This is a secret of intonation with our intonation we make people feel not only think what we're saying, We're transmitting emotions through the ears and the eyes of the people that listen to us. So if you are not using your intonation to increase in a powerful way, the impact of English communication, you're missing more than 50% of the total impact you could make.

Right? What I'm saying is very serious and very important. You can speak English perfectly. But if you're not giving a sense of information that clarifies and impacts the people that listen to you, people will get bored immediately. You will sound robotic or you will sound soft and weak. So let's make sure that you can intonate perfectly when you're speaking English.

So what we're saying is that this is not a matter of thinking how you will intimate your communication is a matter of feeling when you're speaking, feeling the other person and feeling your message so that you can internet almost automatically. Because when you feel something, it comes out with those charged emotions that you're giving to your words. Good. If you go online and look for intonation techniques, first of all, you will find not many things. But the things that you will find there are techniques and concepts and theories that might be helpful. I mean, I started to prepare for this lesson.

All kinds of international information I could find. I didn't like anything because they Make everything technical and robotic. So my sense of intonation is to allow ourselves to feel and feel free when we're communicating in English. So we can go up and down and elongate the words and stop and make impactful process. While we're speaking, at the same time that we are delineating some words and concepts, while we emphasize other ones. You see how different your communication can sound if you start implementing these intonation tricks in your normal speaking.

So let's learn how to integrate. The first thing you should always have in mind is that you should feel free to put emotion in what you're saying. Forget about trying to sound very professional and inventing accents and ways of integrating things that you sound, professional, perfect, organized, be yourself. And when you're yourself and you have your information prepared, that's a perfect formula for impressive communication that causes a deep impact in the people that listen to you. For that, we can use several tools that I quickly mentioned a minute ago, right? When you're speaking, sometimes you can slow down to give a sense of waiting, what's gonna happen, you're creating a little dissipation, you're listening.

If what you're saying starts getting more and more and more exciting, you can accelerate and increase the volume of your voice a little bit, just enough to catch their eye. Attention and let them know that this is something very important that you're going to say. Another tool I like to use is pauses. Great. Right? In the last step, we learned that we shouldn't stop and make pauses between every word we say in English.

But we can use pauses, small pauses in our conversation, to increase the impact of what we're saying. Right? So before you're gonna say something important experiment, pausing for a second or two. To make other people feel this anticipation that we're talking about. Great. Other tools we can use is increasing the volume of our voice and reducing Typically, if you want to make their person get all their attention towards you, or you want to help them on things, good tools, and I'm sure you can find your own tools to internet, important things that you feel open to experimentation.

Right? The more you experiment, the more ridiculous sounds and inclinations you make with your voice. The more options you will learn and the more things you will have to say and to integrate naturally in your speaking English in your regular life. Okay, so it doesn't sound so difficult is it? The only thing you need to do is to feel comfortable and confident. To make ridiculous sounds as simple as that.

So, here are some tips for you to practice your intonation. First of all for your practices, find a quiet place where there's no other people around. Right when I practice my intonation, and someone is around me, I feel a little intimidated, self conscious, and not quite open. To go crazy with my voice. I've been by myself, I sometimes feel a little bad. I sometimes wonder if I'm crazy.

But it's fine because I can really experiment with sounds that I would never do if I were speaking with other people. So find a private place, a silent place to work on your internet. number one. Number two, start paying attention not only to the pronunciation, the fluency of the people you hear speaking English, but also the intonation, the way they go off and down in some questions after meishan and sentences, especially the ones you like. So if you're watching TV and you hear a guy saying, whoa, that's an amazing coat. And if you let that information if that catches your attention, stop for a second and record it with your voice recorder in your cell phone or write it down and repeat.

And finally, number three, create a habit of repeating your sentences and your expressions as frequently as you can By now, you should have your practice ritual twice a day, at least, maybe in your car, maybe your house, I dropped this in your break, whatever, but you should be practicing your English for a few minutes, every day at least twice a day. So now that you will be collecting these expressions and these intonations that you hear, in TV, in movies in English conversations, you should try practicing them. And of course, make sure you're pronouncing and flowing correctly, but also you're intimating like they are. Then when you can do that. You can experiment creating new informations, right, causing different impacts with the same sentence, but first focus on trying to repeating as closely as possible what other people are saying Now let's try an exercise. This is a technique that helped me open up my intonation capabilities and made me feel much more free when I'm expressing whatever I want to express.

So let me give you a little demo of how you should do this exercise. First of all, let me give you a demo of how you shouldn't do this exercise. So let's imagine that I need to convince you that you should improve and practice and study your pronunciation fluency and intonation in English. So let's say that you enter into my office may say, Hi, well, you need to improve your English because pronunciation is very important. If not, they cannot understand you and Also you need to improve your fluency because then you can connect and then you also need to improve your your intonation because intonation is very important to transmit the feelings. How does that sound?

Again, it's robotic, boring, and I'm not connecting with you, right? So when you practice your exercises, try to do it more like this. Let me try again. Hi, and welcome. Now, you're here because I think that you definitely could and should improve and will improve your English pronunciation, fluency and intonation. If you work with these things, it will help your English boys become powerful, persuasive and impactful.

Can you see the difference? I'm saying more or less the same things, but I'm radical. changing how I emphasize certain words, how I'm stopping at certain parts to give more impact, and how I accelerate or slow down when I'm speaking to increase the overall impact and power off my message. Now it's your turn. First, let me give you a couple of examples to get you started. So, let's imagine you are a news reporter.

Reporting, basically whatever you want, whenever you like, but if you don't have any ideas right now, why don't you report New Year's Eve in New York. Imagine during times square, there's thousands of people celebrating. The noise is loud and almost unbearable and everybody is exciting. Writing, everybody is excited, celebrating the coming of the new year. So, when you finish this lesson, Become a news reporter. Now, here's the trick.

Don't worry about what you're saying. Even if you make mistakes, as you noticed, I made a mistake. 30 seconds ago, I don't care. I just keep going. That's what you should do. If you make a mistake, just keep going.

If you don't know what else to say, keep going. And if you have no words or sentences, well make sounds. The objective of this lesson is not to speak perfect structure with great vocabulary, but to transmit emotions with your voice. If you use words and sentences great, but if you don't have ideas, just keep going making the sound. So our hearing you year on Oh wow. Happy New Year.

Whatever you say. It doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense. Capture the emotion, no matter how ridiculous you think you sound. Another example for you imagine you are the CEO of your company, one of the most important companies in the world. And you're meeting with your top managers and directors, because something needs to change in the company. Either you evolve, change, grow, or the company can disappear and go bankrupt.

So right now you're on the table with your top managers and you have to communicate these very important necessity of changing immediately the company information can help you As with the importance of your message, not only the words, but the sense of gravity, importance and urgency that you give with your voice, are the things that will motivate other people to listen to you and obey or take what you're saying saying seriously. Okay, so after you practice with this things for a little bit, you can also practice doing other kinds of speeches. Or maybe you're a teacher trying to motivate kindergarten students, or maybe you're the president giving an info informing the nation about big changes or improvements in the economy or in the nation, whatever you want. But when you practice this for a little bit, it is time to make it personal. So this is your homework in your practice times that you should and must be doing twice a day by now.

Try to follow for a few minutes talking about yourself. Imagine you are standing in front of very important managers of your company. And you're talking about how useful you are for this company, what your achievements have been, what your skills are, what you like about the company, what you don't like and what you think you could improve in a company. Right? This is a great option. This is a great activity to practice your intonation talking about yourself, because this is the easiest way to connect with what you're saying.

You can really feel every word or trying to communicate. So remember, exaggerated The ridiculous go wall, go down slow now with use of volume and increase the volume and the velocity when it's necessary. Just go crazy. And let me know how it goes. So have fun practicing your intonation. And I'll see you for the next part of this step.

But for now, this is G and I hope that you stay well.
