DESCRIPTION: Shrinking the trousers is really what sets apart bespoke from the rest of the industry. Shaping the legs improves the overall fitting of the trouser quite dramatically. So much cloth can be shrunk away under the seat that one gets a much cleaner fit that can’t be achieved by simply taking in the thigh. This is a painstakingly slow process for those who don’t like pressing but I must say I do quite enjoy it. The most commonly made mistake is trying to take out too much at once. It must be done slowly and carefully. Many times when I first started, I kept getting pleats pressed in on the opposite side of the leg, as it’s the side you can’t see. Wool is quite forgiving but when some cotton or silks get pleats pressed into them, it can be nearly impossible to get out. So as I have said before: take your time and use plenty of water to raise the steam.Steam softens heat presses and the cold iron sets. These are the basic principles behind pressing again garment.
