DESCRIPTION: Once the patterns are drafted, it is time to layout the cloth and starts cutting. Before just jumping into it there are a few things to consider. It is preferable to have a table long enough and wide enough to take the full length of cloth, if that isn’t possible, be sure you can fit at least one pattern on there at a time. Always chalk all the patterns out on the cloth before cutting anything.Firstly lay the cloth out with the selvedge edge butted to the edge of the table. This ensures that the cloth is straight on the grain. When laying on the top layer be sure it isn’t twisted by matching it on the selvedge edge. If the cloth is twisted before the cut it will untwist after the cut and the cut cloth won’t be a true representation of the drafted pattern and therefore will not fit correctly. The board used in the demonstrations has an unfinished plywood top, which makes an ideal cutting table. If your surface has a varnished finish you should use a board cloth, we...
