DESCRIPTION: Many years ago when I was training with a tailor in Ireland, his hand-sewer would cross stitch the hem between the turn-up and the cloth. I found out later that this method was reserved for skirt hems only, but was quick to put in so I imagine that’s why he did it that way.
I am not necessarily looking to cut corners but offer a sound method to making trousers. The difficulty with any hand-stitch is the consistency of length and width. My advice is to stop every 2” to look back at your previous stitching checking that it has remained constant.
