Marcel discusses how best to record a kick drum. In order to capture a bass drum correctly, Marcel uses four microphones in the same position to achieve four different sounds. Being perfectly in phase, these can be mixed to achieve a gorgeous sound even before reaching for the EQ.
He demonstrates his own technique for phase alignment.
As a human mic stand, Marcel also demonstrates a method of microphone placement that maximizes the pressure level and, therefore, the low-frequency response of a large-diaphragm condenser microphone.
