Health and Meditation

Meditation has a considerable impact on health around the world, and rightfully so. Dr, Herbert Benson recognizes that any chronic illness that is due to stress can be alleviated by practicing meditation. Researchers can study how meditation affects the brain by using MRIs to see what areas in the brain have changed. MRIs have shown that the area of the brain that controls metabolism and blood pressure has more activity after practicing meditation. There was another study that used Buddhist Monks as the testing subjects to have a better understanding of lasting changes in the brain. It was discovered that long-lasting changes were found in the parts of the brain that control attention, working memory, learning, and conscious perception. (Lerche Davis, 2020)
