History of Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy has been used for many years. Aromatherapy was used in ancient Rome, China, Greece, India, and Egypt, mainly for religious purposes and for perfumes. Many individuals during this period used it to trade for goods. According to the University of New Hampshire, an Arabian Physician named Avicenna founded the distilling process that we know today during the middle ages. The term Aromatherapy was coined by Rene &ndash; Maurice Gatehouse, a French Chemist, 1937 who is also considered the father of aromatherapy. Research in the 1990s has led us to a better understanding of how the body responds to Aromatherapy. Gettafosse first discovered the properties of lavender oil in 1910. (Aromatherapy.com, 2018)
