The Beginning of Art Therapy
Art Therapy came into existence in the 1900s as a profession that combines art and Psychotherapy. Margaret Naumberg, also known as the &ldquo;mother of art therapy,&rdquo; was a psychologist who founded the Walden School of New York City. Edith Kramer, who was a painter, founded the graduate program of art therapy at New York University and is credited with developing the profession of Art Therapy. Edith was also a well-renowned painter in Austria. Adrian Hall, a British artist, coined the term Art Therapy in 1942 while recovering from Tuberculosis. (Goodtherapy, 2016)
