A Closer Look at Chronic Pain
Chronic pain is a symptom of many illnesses that some individuals may be able to somewhat manage at home. Clients who experience pain are usually seeing a pain doctor, as well. These tools are used by many self-managers to help them to cope with daily pain. Chronic pain is very complex and can have many different causes. It is also known that chronic pain and stress are intimately connected. According to the University of Rochester Medical School, individuals who have chronic pain will experience a pain cycle. The pain cycle is initiated when someone feels pain, then activity, strength, endurance, and flexibility are decreased, then there is a re-injury or flare-up. This is a vicious cycle that can be eased by helping clients implement the self&ndash;management tools listed below (University of Rochester Medical School, 2019)
