According to psych central, it is estimated that 70% to 90% of doctor visits are due to stress. (Ashworth, 2019)&emsp;Individuals living with a chronic disease have many barriers to overcome in a typical day that most individuals do not think of. There is a balancing act of self&ndash;managing their illness by depending on others for help. Being able to perform the activities of daily living is essential for thriving and feeling somewhat in control of their medical condition. Knowing how to work with this population is vital because you do not want to worsen someone's chronic condition by increasing their stress level internally, which will increase their cortisol levels and either cause their disease to flare up or initiate another medical condition within the body.
