According to the National Institutes of Health, the brain consists of many parts that work together but have different functions. The brain is known as the most complex organ of the human body. It controls movement and behavior as well as interprets the senses. The brain is surrounded by a boney shell and protected by fluid. We have learned more about the brain in the past ten years, because of the accelerated amount of research that has been conducted. We were able to make so many advances that Congress named the 1990s the decade of the brain. This period in time catapulted our understanding of the functioning of the brain.
