Every content writing project has a lifecycle, the same as software development. The preliminary steps from requirement gathering to research are as important as the editing and proofreading. Without the basics done right, you end up in a mess.
In this course, I'll walk you through the steps you need to take before you start the "writing" part of a content development project. Please note this class does not train you on writing for business; that'll be my next class "Business writing done better, faster".
What will you learn in this course?
Who should take this class?
This will be a useful class for anyone who's new to content writing or has a few years of experience but struggles with consistency and timelines.
You'll work on 2 projects: the requirement gathering checklist and the project requirement document. I've come to these documents after burning my fingers many times over during the early days of my career. Developing these documents helps me stay on track of projects and avoid situations that lead to missed deadlines. Take these documents, build on them. If you're working on any project, try filling out the project templates with the information you have. If you don't have the information, ask the client. You'll be surprised at the clarity this process brings into a project.
You'll also see me use a technique called mind mapping during the class. This technique will improve your focus and the quality of the copy you produce. Mind mapping is something every content writer must excel at.
