What's up everyone, Ali Khan here today we're going to talk about why you must be in a calorie deficit to lose weight. Okay? This is very important because a lot of people don't really understand how weight loss works. So we're gonna break it down for you. We're gonna bust some myths today, it's gonna be fun. So So let's get started.

First thing is you must understand what a calorie deficit is. So what is a calorie deficit? Basically, a calorie deficit is an energy imbalance in which your calories in are less than your calories out. So let's look into that a little more. Your calories in are basically calories that you consume from food and beverages, and your calories out or calories burn from bodily functions and physical activity. So everything from digesting food, breathing, walking your dog jumping off a dog, all of this contributes to your energy out or your calories out.

Now, you lose weight. When your calories in let me Hi, my face here is less than your calories out. That's what's known as being in a calorie deficit. Now, when your calories in are greater than your calories out, that's what's known as being in a calorie surplus, which causes you to gain weight. And that's not what most people want to do. So, why is it so important?

Why do I keep harping on the calorie deficit? Well, there have been studies that have shown that nothing else really matters for weight loss. So your macronutrient ratio, for example, it doesn't really matter. So how many carbs you're eating, how much fat you're eating doesn't really matter. As long as you're in a calorie deficit, you'll lose weight, how much you're exercising doesn't really matter. So there's some people that exercise quite a bit and they might still be in a calorie surplus and, and so they would be gaining weight.

And then there's other people that don't exercise much at all. But you know, they're still in a car. deficit. So the exercise doesn't really matter. And even what you eat doesn't really matter as long as you're in a calorie deficit. So there's an interesting example on this and that is there.

There was a science teacher from Iowa named john cissna. And he went on a diet where he ate nothing but McDonald's for six months straight. So he had a he was on a 2000 calorie diet. And he also walked for 45 minutes a day. So for a guy of his size, I think he was six foot 280 pounds at the at the start of this experiment. You know, a 2000 calorie diet and 45 minutes of walking was definitely putting him into a calorie deficit without a doubt.

So guess what happened at the end of six months? He lost 56 pounds, okay. 56 pounds. That's, that's insane. I mean, the guy was eating McDonald's all day. So that just goes to show you the power of being in a calorie deficit should not be underestimated.

Now Just to sidetrack for a minute. So some of these things that I talked about earlier macronutrients exercise and food quality. These things do matter for your overall health. So don't get me wrong, I don't want you to think you can just ignore all of these factors. They don't matter at all. You know, they matter for your overall health.

But when it comes to weight loss, when it comes to weight loss, really, a calorie deficit is the one thing you should focus on above all else. So that's really the only thing that matters. So hope you learn something and thanks for tuning in. We'll see you in the next video.
