Lesson 2: Developing trust - The cornerstone to effective relationships.
As you can well imagine by now, skills and a firm understanding of interpersonal communication are also an effective means of influencing others to help you succeed. There are at least three essential ingredients found in effective interpersonal relationships.  They are the ability to:  

Express empathy towards the other, “putting yourself in their shoes”
Express warmth and caring.
Communicate a sense of genuineness, openness, and honesty in your relationship with that person.

Remember these ingredients when you’re relating to others—expressing an interest in their lives in the same manner as you would like them to express an interest in yours. Keep in mind such expressions as:

The importance of giving to receive.
A relationship needs to work “two ways” 
The need for understanding, and collaboration.
