C.A.R.T. is an acronym for the following four words:

Compromise
Acceptance
Respect
Trust

Let’s explore these four words and what they have to do with building and sustaining relationships.

Compromise

Individuals come into a relationship bringing different perspectives from their life experiences: their own personalities; belief systems; and abilities. We do not see the same situation the same. Therefore, what we desire, wish for, or need from that same situation is likely to be different as well. So to agree on a ‘common course of action’ for a ‘common result’ could be a challenge. It may require ‘the blending of qualities of two different things.


Acceptance

Usually in a relationship what attracts us in the first place are all the things we ‘like’ about that person for a specific ‘role’ we see that person playing in the situation. All those ‘attractors’...
