You can look at any social relationship from two dimensions:

Its function or purpose
How it is executed or maintained

Now, having identified your key stakeholder relationships, the next task that you have in building those relationships is to ask yourself:

Why do these relationships exist?
What are the expectations that each party has of themselves and the other?
Are these expectations mutually clear to one another?

The answers to these questions fall within the realm of the first dimension of social relationships—function or purpose.

How are these expectations being met?
Do both parties mutually support and contribute to each other’s feelings of fulfillment and satisfaction from the relationship?

These questions fall within the second dimension of social relationships—the maintenance of the relationship.
