Hello and welcome to lesson three. Do you still have your worksheet by your side? Great, then let's begin. category three communications. People with this soft skill have the ability to positively connect with others verbally, non verbally and through the written word. A real life example is giving a presentation.

Some other specific skills included within this category are and I'll just read through the list again and go back and unpack the finer points contained within each skill. Once we get through to the end, so here we have verbal communication, nonverbal communication, writing, storytelling, listening interviewing, public speaking and being quick witted. Yes. So let's begin here back at the top with verbal communication. So the soft skill of communicating well verbally includes having an extensive vocabulary using good grammar and having clear diction when you speak. Clear diction means that you have the ability to pronounce your words clearly and well so you don't slur your speech.

Next we have intonation as another element of verbal communication. By intonation, we mean the way in which you emphasize your words when you speak. For example, not ending your statements with question marks and finally, within verbal Communication we have Express linear thinking. And expressing linear thinking means that when you speak, listeners are able to follow your thoughts because you speak clearly with a beginning, a middle and an end. You don't have any tangents going on in between or you lose your train of thought. So that is an element of effective verbal communication skills.

All right now we're here at nonverbal communication, and the elements of nonverbal communication include positive body language, okay, so, shoulders back, head up, eyes forward, not looking down, appropriate use of facial expressions and appropriate use of silence. So with regard to appropriate use of facial expressions, the idea here, here Is that you are aware at all times of what your face is conveying? What are your eyebrows doing at any given time? Are they knit together and pointing downwards or are they relaxed? What are the corners of your mouth doing at any given time? are they up?

Or are they down? Are they neutral and relaxed and the appropriate use of silence also, I included it here as important to add because silence is a form of communication that has a wide variety of uses. The person with this soft skill is able to speak volumes with their judicious use of silence approval can be expressed with silence as well as disapproval. Okay, so let's move on here to writing. Writing is about Being able to craft good sentences, paragraphs, documents and other forms of communications. Storytelling is an element of the soft skill of communications, because it is about being able to bring a concept or idea to life through a presentation for example, or when talking about something that happened to you.

So being able to convey the mood, the details, the the concept, that was the motivation behind the action is a vital communication skill to have and if you have this skill, or if you have the skill of writing, or if you're strong verbal communicator or strong, non verbal communicator, remember to jot that down on your worksheet. Or if any of these is a skill that you would like to develop, remember to also jot that down. Next, let's move on to listening. Listening is a soft skill that requires the silencing of your own mind in order to fully receive what another person is saying to you. So usually the result of good listening is understanding. So this is the ability to quiet the chatter that goes on and our minds constantly in order to give full attention to the person that we're who is speaking to us, interviewing.

So now, interviewing is certainly important in the workplace, especially for those who work in human resources. But actually, anyone can find themselves in the act of interviewing, for example, when you want to subscribe to a new service Have you asked about the provider's ability to deliver that service and at what cost? You ask new contacts about themselves in order to determine if they're a good fit for you, for example. So interviewing is actually a soft skill that anyone, whether at at work or in your private life, anyone needs and can use. public speaking is the next soft skill subset on this list. And public speaking includes elements of verbal communication and nonverbal communication.

Finally, being quick witted, now, being quick witted, and although it might seem at first to be about front being funny, and although having a sense of humor is also a soft skill, being Quick, quick witted, is really actually about being plugged in In an alert to the conversation, or the situation at hand to help illustrate the skill, characteristic or quality of being quick witted, let's take a look at this image here. With all of these folks gathered together around this laptop. It's clear through their body language through their facial expressions, that they are all plugged in and alert to the conversation and the situation that is at hand. So there's no one here that appears to be drifting or daydreaming, or dis interested in what's going on. So investing oneself in the situation at hand in real time, is what being quick witted is really all about.

And it's a very vital and much appreciated soft skill in the workplace and also in within personal relationships. Okay, so what soft skills Did you identify within this list? What soft skills Would you like to develop? Be sure to include those on your worksheet and I'll meet you over at lesson four.
